Primary-care access programs give front-line clinicians a fast line to psychiatric expertise. Child psychiatry access programs and perinatal psychiatry access programs let a pediatrician, family doctor, or obstetrician get prompt phone advice from a specialist, so a patient doesn't wait months for a scarce appointment. They're one of the most practical answers to the workforce shortage.
