Privacy policy

What we collect, what we don't, and the choice you have. The short version: very little, and you can decline the rest.

shrinkiatry is an educational publication, not a clinic and not a store. We designed it to collect as little about you as possible, and this page says exactly what that means. It's written plainly on purpose, because a privacy policy you can't read isn't really a disclosure.

What we collect

If you email us or use the contact form, we receive what you choose to send: your name, your email address, and your message. We use that only to read and respond to you.

If you consent to analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages get read and how the site performs. We have IP anonymization enabled. We use it to decide what to write next, not to identify you.

We don't ask you to create an account, and there's nothing to log into.

Cookies, and the choice you have

Google Analytics sets cookies, so we ask you before it runs. We use Google's Consent Mode with analytics storage denied by default, which means the tag can't store anything on your device until you actively accept. If you decline, the site behaves identically and you lose nothing.

Separately, your theme preference and your cookie choice are stored in your own browser's local storage. Those never reach us. If your browser sends a global privacy control signal, we treat it as a request not to be measured. The full detail is on the cookie policy.

What we don't do

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we never have. We don't run advertising, we don't use advertising or remarketing cookies, and we don't build advertising profiles. We don't share your information with data brokers. We don't collect health information about you, and you shouldn't send us any: this isn't a clinical service, and an inbox isn't a safe place for medical details.

Third parties we rely on

A few providers make the site run. Google provides the analytics described above, and data processed through it is handled under Google's own terms. Web fonts may be served from a content delivery network. The site is hosted on a static hosting and content-delivery platform, which processes basic technical request data such as IP address and browser type to serve pages and protect against abuse, as most web infrastructure does. If the contact form is connected to a form provider, that provider receives what you submit so it can reach us. Each provider handles data under its own privacy terms, and we choose providers with that in mind. Links to other sites in The Shrink Network and elsewhere are governed by those sites' own policies, not this one.

How long we keep things

We keep messages you send only as long as we need them to respond and to keep a reasonable record of correspondence, and we delete them when they're no longer needed. Analytics data is retained under the retention setting configured in Google Analytics. Because we collect so little to begin with, there usually isn't much to hold.

Your choices and rights

You can decline analytics at any time, and you can reset your choice by clearing this site's storage in your browser. You can also install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, which applies across every site.

Email support@shrinkiatry.com at any time to ask what we hold from a message you sent, to request a copy, or to ask us to delete it, and we'll honor reasonable requests. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe or state privacy laws in the US may give you additional rights over your personal information. We aim to respect those rights, and you can reach us at the same address to exercise them.

Children

shrinkiatry is written for clinicians, trainees, and adults curious about the profession. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date on it. Material changes get stated plainly rather than buried.
