Reported by the program

The program describes the following on its official information, reviewed on July 29, 2026.

Who it serves
The Texas Physician Health Program is an independent, confidential program for physicians and a range of other licensed health professionals, including physician assistants, respiratory care practitioners, and medical radiologic technologists, who are affected by substance use disorders, physical illness or impairment, or psychiatric conditions.
What it does
The program provides early intervention, assessment, referral to treatment, and post-treatment monitoring. It does not treat participants itself; it facilitates their treatment and monitors their recovery.
Governance and confidentiality
TXPHP was created by the Texas Legislature, is governed by its own eleven-member board, and operates with administrative support from the Texas Medical Board. It describes most aspects of participation as strictly confidential.

shrinkiatry context

A physician who's struggling often won't reach out if the only door leads straight to the licensing board. Texas built TXPHP as a separate, confidential path so that getting help doesn't have to mean discipline. For the Atlas, it joins the physician and clinician mental health programs already documented in Maine, Nebraska, Florida, Hawaii, and New York, and its statutory, board-governed structure shows how seriously the state treats clinician health as infrastructure.
