What it is
TCHATT connects participating school districts with telehealth mental health services for students, so a child whose counselor notices a concern can be assessed by a mental health specialist by video rather than waiting for a distant appointment. It covers students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
Cost and reach
The program is funded by the Texas Legislature, and it lists no cost to the schools that participate or the families whose children are seen. Services are time-limited, meant to identify needs and connect students to longer-term care.
How a referral starts
A school counselor shares a concern with the district's designated TCHATT liaison, who submits a referral; TCHATT staff then contact the parent or guardian, and a telemedicine screening is scheduled with an appropriate specialist.
